The Don’ts:
· DON'T make your site entirely in Flash (or if you do, make an html version as an alternative, kind of like we did.)
Pure flash pages, or pages heavily loaded with flash suffer from the same ranking problems as frame sites. The majority of search engines have problems following the links in flash objects. Google is the only search engine with the ability to follow flash embedded links. In a nutshell, search engine spiders rarely see Flash.
· DON'T make your site in frames.
The search engines only see the first page of the site and can't crawl any deeper. Since having content rich pages in the search engines is a key factor used to determine high rankings, it is advised that you have at least ten pages or more that are “crawlable”.
The Do’s:
· Do add Title Tags, Description Tags and Alt Tags in all your pages.
This is prime component in your search engine optimization strategy. Each and every page of your site should have a relevant and powerful title and description meta tag. The title is displayed at the top of a browser when someone visits your website. The description is displayed next to your title in your search engine listings. Alt tag is a text string embedded in your image files. Be careful not to stuff your images with inappropriate or irrelevant content.
· DO include a site map on your website.
It is important to include a page that lists all the urls of your site in one place - and place a link to that site map on the bottom of every page of your site. This is not a user-friendly resource so that visitors know what to refer to when searching for a specific page on your site, but is also proving search engines with an easy way to crawl through your site.
